The Venue
The Twelfth Workshop will be held at Royal Holloway, University of London, which lies in extensive parkland of 135 acres to the west of Greater London.
Royal Holloway College, as it was formerly known, was established by a Victorian entrepreneur, Thomas Holloway, in 1879. It was originally an all women College. Men were not admitted until 1965.
The campus is dominated by its original building, known as the "Founder's Building", designed by William Henry Crossland and inspired by the Château de Chambord in the Loire Valley, France. The spectacular "Founder's Building" is said to be exactly one metre larger than the Château de Chambord. The building was officially opened in 1886 by Queen Victoria, who permitted the use of "Royal" in the college's name.
The campus is well-known for its Picture Gallery, which is located within the Founder's Building, housing a collection of over seventy pieces of Victorian era art given to the college at the time of its founding by Thomas Holloway.
The College lies a few miles to the south of the town of Windsor and is within walking distance of Windsor Great Park.
